Mission

My mission is to produce accurate, clear and effective content, from click, to link, to close.

Skills

I work mainly for a business audience, including cultural institutions, government and communications firms. Plain language web and print/display content are my main areas of expertise.

Fluent in French, I’m an ideal choice for bilingual projects based in Ottawa. I will not edit in French, but I can communicate with ease in it.

With over fifteen years of policy experience and five on my own, I bring my skills in research and experience in analysis to all of my projects. I ask the right questions, listen to the client’s needs and do my best to resolve problems adeptly, diplomatically and creatively.

I’m proficient in Microsoft Word, HTML, PowerPoint, Excel, and have experience working in a number of CMS environments, including WordPress, Agility and others. I’m also familiar with Photoshop. Understanding the need to remain flexible in our ever-evolving publishing world, I do my utmost to remain current.

Resources and references

Passionate about topics as diverse as art, politics, communications, philosophy, travel and food, I’m a voracious reader.

My library and bookmark menu are well-stocked with dictionaries, writing and editing manuals (Canada.ca Web Writing Style Guide, The Canadian Style, Writing English, The Copyeditor’s Handbook, Editing Canadian English, Technical Communications, Mobile Usability, and The Chicago Manual of Style, to name a handful).

I’d be pleased to acquire your preferred style guide to add to my collection.

Education

I have a Bachelor of Arts in English Literature from the University of Toronto, where I more recently completed studies in technical communications and writing for the web. I have a Post-Graduate Diploma in Mass Communications from Concordia University and a Publishing Certificate from Ryerson University.

I have travelled extensively throughout Europe, Oceania and North America. I attended Lycée Camille-Guérin in France, where I developed an abiding love of the French language, literature and well-aged goat cheese. Subsequent years studying and working in the Montréal film sector left me with a peculiarly hybrid franbécois accent, and many fond memories of la belle province.
